I’ve always wanted to make a miniature straight shaving razor just because I thought it would make a fantastic looking penknife. A quick rummage through the cutlery drawer provided all the inspiration I needed…
How to make a shaving razor pocket knife
The key to this build is really the steel. After testing a number of old blunt stainless steel knives I found some that where suitably blunt, although I cannot be sure what grade of stainless steel is in them, they seemed quite hard. The trickiest part of the build is cutting out the blade and grinding it into shape. All you really need is patience, and to keep the steel as cool as possible. You can see me do this a couple of times in the video, but in real life I regularly cooled the steel in between cutting and grinding.
I have provided a template below with a large image of a constructed razor, and some mini razor templates that you can scale to size. The thickness of the spine was about 1mm, and my pins where 2mm.
