Cap’s Shield destruction
So I got asked a lot of questions about my first Captain America shield build, now called the Mark 1, and thinking about it I was dumb not to test it. But as it turned out a lot of my American chums from across the pond had trouble sourcing satellite dishes anyway, so it was a good opportunity to build a mark 2, and kick the bejesus out of it. Here’s the result.
The testing results are in
Well it came as no surprise to me that this build, like the Mark 1, would be tough. Like all of my builds I take pleasure in making the best end product I think I can. It did surprise me just how tough this was for a simple 4 layer design. I couldn’t help but wonder why the Thermite refused to burn through the shield, even with two attempts, and one of my YouTube viewers was kind enough to answer…
Probably ablation, TBH. You saw the burning fumes. The fiberglass was boiling but that means that it was getting rid of a lot of the energy that the thermite had. Also, plastics don’t transfer heat as well. Simply put, it gets rid of the heat by evaporating, so it doesn’t let the thermite get as far.
So there we go, and if you want to build this exact shield, I have a video for that.
